NPR’s Religious Views

This list of links is dynamic (updated Nov 14, 06). I will add more links as I find them and I may remove a few if it turns out they lack relevancy. It is obvious to me that NPR leans to the left politically. However, NPR also consistently seeks to malign, marginalize and undermine orthodox Christianity and its teachings. Initially my goal here is to provide a representative list of examples which substantiate this claim. I will also be listening to all of the links below and commenting as I see fit.

Points
=======================

  1. NPR stories frequently feature prominent “liberal” Bible scholars. The statements these guests make are rarely balanced with a “conservative” response. These interviews undermine the authority and reliability of the Bible. It is presented as containing unresolvable contradictory statements. The transmission of the original texts and the canon are called into question. Gnostic texts are given equal footing with the four Gospels. Finally, liberal interpretations of particular texts are usually presented. This would all be fine provided NPR allowed conservative scholars to respond.
  2. NPR features interviews with authors openly hostile to religion of any kind, but particularly Christianity. Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins are the most obvious examples. Men like Dawkins carry great intellectual weight in the world of secular scientific academia. The message of these interviews communicate the message that religion is basically asinine.
  3. NPR stories often hint that an army of highly organized Christians conservatives are amassing to make war on the culture and implement a theocracy. They are very adept in formulating the stories in such a way that both sides “appear” to be presented. However, it is uncanny that the interviews often present one side as the voice of reason. The Christian point of view comes across as angry, emotional, naively nostalgic and irrational. I call this “The Christians are coming! The Christians are coming!”.
  4. NPR features stories which suggest that religion is dangerous and inhibits scientific advancement.

Key
=======================

If you see a number in brackets next to one of the links, it refers to one of the points above. Example “[2]” would signify an interview with an author openly hostile to religion.

A “+” indicates that the link points to an interview or story that is either atypically fair minded or a response of from a conservative voice.
