This American Life: The Giant Pool of Money

This is really worth listening to if you want to understand the housing crash.

A special program about the housing crisis. We explain it all to you. What does the housing crisis have to do with the collapse of the investment bank Bear Stearns? Why did banks make half-million dollar loans to people without jobs or income? And why is everyone talking so much about the 1930s? It all comes back to the Giant Pool of Money.

I’ve listened and this COMPLETE left-wing Statist propaganda. It’s SUCH BS. Serious. This American Life has shown their true colors here, because this is total card stacking.

    Andrew,

While it is true PRI and NPR provide mostly left wing garbage I didn’t think this program was all that bad. It has been quite a while since I listened but I do believe it explained the problems with derivatives, credit default swaps and such. Your characterization of this particular episode is not accurate in my opinion. I don’t recall if they actually advocated any statist solutions to the problem or not but if so I don’t think it was heavy handed.

I notice that this is related to a broadcast from a year ago. They have since done an update. Perhaps there was significant variation between the two versions?
